Visit to Sao Joao Landfill

Today we visited the Sao Joao landfill, which produces electricity from burning methane gas that come from the trash from half the residents of the city of Sao Paulo.

Museu do Futebol

Today we visited the Futebol (soccer) museum in Sao Paulo.  We learned about why futebol is important to Brazilian culture and it got us excited for the upcoming world cup here in Brazil!

Meeting with the Secretary of Energy for the state of São Paulo

Today we met with the Secretary of Energy for the state of São Paulo, Marco Antonio Mroz. We found out about all the renewable energy initiatives that São Paulo is proposing for 2020. We are featured on the Secretary of Sao Paulo's website!  See it here http://www.energia.sp.gov.br/

Debate on Renewable energy implementation!


Today in class we had a debate on implementation of renewable energies. We had a very engaging conversation on renewable energies.

Mercadao and weekend adventures

Friday afternoon we went to the mercadao, which is a big fruit in São Paulo. We tried a famous mortendella sandwich and pastels for lunch. 
Friday night we ventured out of the city and stayed in a town called Embu. We got to see the Brazilian countryside. 
We came back to São Paulo and had a bike ride around the city. 
It was a very eventful and fun weekend!

 They even gave us a sample of the sugarcane to eat!

Experiencing Brazil

We learned about Brazilian history and coffee on Friday from our Brazilian Culture Professor, Gustavo!
Saturday we went to Liberdade, which is the asian town of Sao Paulo.  Sao Paulo has the largest Japanese population outside of Japan in the world! 
Sunday we visited Villa Madalena, the bohemian area of Sao Paulo with many restaurants and shops. It is known for it's very interesting graffiti.

Visit to CPFL Solar Energy Company

Today we went to visit CPFL Solar energy company.  We learned about how they distribute renewable energy into the grid in Brazil and their plans to expand more renewable energies in Brazil in the coming years.

Tour of historical downtown São Paulo

We learned about the history of São Paulo and toured the historical downtown where the city was founded.

Then we got açaí bowls as a snack afterwards, which is a traditional Brazilian fruit smoothie type snack.

Jogo de futebol

We went to a Brazilian "futebol" or soccer game. It was the Palmeiras versus Goias. Palmeiras is one of the teams in São Paulo and they won 2-0!!!
